Cargo insurance

The right cover, from more than five insurers.

Cargoa has partnerships with more than five insurance companies. We compare cover for your cargo and place the policy that fits its value and risk, door to door.

Shield protecting cargo moved by air, sea and road
Why insure

Carrier liability will not cover what your goods are worth.

Airlines, shipping lines and truckers limit what they pay under international conventions and their own terms. If cargo is lost, stolen or damaged, that limit is often a fraction of your invoice. Insurance covers the difference.

Loss and damage

Cover for goods lost, stolen or damaged in transit, on the terms of the policy you choose.

Door to door

Cover can follow the cargo from the supplier abroad to your doorstep, including the inland leg by road or barge.

Form M ready

A marine insurance certificate forms part of Form M documentation in Nigeria. We make sure it matches your shipment.

Compared across insurers

With partnerships across more than five insurance companies, you see options instead of a single take-it-or-leave-it quote.

Dangerous and high-value cargo

Underwriters have conditions for these goods. We disclose them correctly at the start so cover is valid when you need it.

Claims support

If something goes wrong, we help you assemble the documents and follow the claim with the insurer.

Accurate cover

Insured for what the cargo is really worth.

Under-insure and a claim pays less than the loss. Over-insure and you pay for cover you cannot claim. We work out the right figure with you and match the policy terms to the goods and the route.

  • Insured value set from your invoice, freight and related costs
  • Cover level matched to the goods: broad all-risks or narrower terms
  • Transport mode and route disclosed accurately
  • Special goods declared to the underwriter at the start

FAQ

Cargo insurance questions

Why do I need cargo insurance if the airline or shipping line is liable?

Carrier liability is limited by international conventions and contract terms, and is often far below the value of your goods. It also depends on proving fault. Cargo insurance covers the value of the goods themselves, whoever is at fault.

How much cover do I need?

Cargo is commonly insured for the invoice value plus freight and a margin (often 10%) to cover related costs. We confirm the right insured value with you so you are neither under-insured nor paying for cover you do not need.

Which insurers do you work with?

Cargoa has partnerships with more than five insurance companies. We compare cover from them for your cargo and recommend the policy that fits. Ask us for the options when you request a quote.

Is insurance needed for Form M?

In Nigeria a marine insurance certificate forms part of the Form M documentation, and the certificate is issued digitally. We make sure the certificate matches your shipment.

Can dangerous goods or high-value cargo be insured?

Often yes, but underwriters set conditions or need prior approval. We tell the insurers what you are shipping at the start so the cover is real and not void on a technicality.

What happens if my cargo is damaged or lost?

Tell us straight away and keep the packaging, photos and documents. We help you prepare the claim and follow it with the insurer.
